Horizon Regional MUD obtains water from two separate well fields. The first is located in the desert and is comprised of 9 wells that provide a combined pumping capacity of 735 gallons per minute of water that is pumped to Tank 3, chlorinated and sent into the distribution system. The second well field is located along Interstate 10 and is comprised of four wells that produce 4600 gallons of high total dissolved solids water that must be sent through the Reverse Osmosis Plant to render it potable. All the water produced is stored in five on ground and three elevated storage tanks that together hold 4,400,000 gallons of potable water. The combination of booster pump stations and hydraulic pressure due to elevation then delivers this potable water to over 25,000 customers. The use of Reverse Osmosis filtration has allowed Horizon Regional MUD to obtain and keep a “Superior Water System” rating with the Texas Commission on Environ-mental Quality. The sewage collection system is comprised of 14 lift stations and the associated pressure and gravity sewer mains that collect an average of 1.2 million gallons of sewage a day and transport it to the 1.5 million gallon per day Sewage Treatment Plant. The plant treats the influent and the resultant effluent is applied to the ground surface at the Districts irrigation fields. An average of 500,000 gallons a day is recycled for use as irrigation by the Emerald Springs Golf Course. |
